Senior Cub Camp 2026 ⛺

The morning of Saturday June 20th, 18 Senior Cubs and 5 Leaders made their way to the foothills of the Dublin Mountains for what has become a traditional sign-off to Cubs for our Senior Cub Groups.

First stop of the weekend was Tibradden Woods for three hours of whizzing through the tree-tops at breakneck speed at Zipit Forest Adventures. Thankfully, after an incredibly wet few days, the weather gods were shining on the Cubs, as by the time we arrived at Zippit the skys had cleared and the sun was shining on Tibradden.

After completing the three hours of various Zippit courses, the Cubs and leaders had their pack lunches and readied themselves for the short, but highly enjoyable hike, over to Larch Hill Camp Site.

Even though the distance covered was short, the terrain and views from the foothills of the Dublin Mountains were amazing. It was such a clear day even the Mourne Mountains were clearly visible to the north. The hike covers footpaths, fences, fields, dense foliage, streams until you finally arrive at Larch Hill where the Cubs would be setting up camp.

Once we all arrived safely in Larch Hill, it as was time to get the camp set up properly. In preparation for Scouts, where the leaders do very little work 😉, the Cubs were tasked with setting up their own tents, and to their credit, they did a fine job, and all managed to get their tents pitched correctly and in a fairly neat row.

After some well deserved downtime, the Cubs were then tasked with cooking dinner for themselves and the leaders. With the weather so good, it was only appropriate that the charcoals were lit and BBQs were fired-up for some sausages, burgers and baked potatoes.

All of the Cubs got to cook their own grub, and after the exertions from the day, all devoured their burgers, sausages and spuds with great gusto.

The rest of the evening was filled with games, music (we had a couple of budding musicians on guitar and bodhrán), exploring the campsite and with the skies so clear, a bit of star-gazing.

As Sunday morning rolled around, the sun crept over the Larch Hill tree line, the Cubs and Leaders stirred, prepared breakfast, and most importantly of all, boiled up some kelly-kettle coffee for the leaders!!

Soon it was time to break camp. But before we could take the tents down, we undertook the tricky maneuver of moving all the tents into the direct sunlight, to speed up the process of drying off the due that had fallen overnight. The tents and shelters were dry in no time, and all were packed away and loaded into the van for the return trip home.

The last action of the camp was for some closing words from Camp Leaders, Anita and Eoin, to congratulate the Senior Cubs on a successful camp and wish them every success as their scouting journey continues for those joining the Scout Section in September.
