About the Group
Founded in 1973 and highly active to this day, two Beaver colonies, three Cub packs, two Scout troops, a Venture unit, a Rovers section and a Water Section that serves the whole group.
Five decades of scouting
From a single Scout Troop meeting in a community hall to one of Meath's most active and well-respected scout groups, here's our story.
Founded
1st Meath Dunboyne Scout Group was established by a small group of dedicated volunteers, initially running a single Scout Troop from a community hall in Dunboyne village.
Beaver Colony Launched
Recognising demand from younger children in the community, the group established its first Beaver Colony, extending scouting experienced to younger children from Dunbouyne.
New Scout Den Opens
After years of fundraising, the group opened its dedicated Scout Den on Rooske Road, a permanent home that remains the heart of the group to this day.
Water Section Established
Building on members' passion for the outdoors, a dedicated Water Section was founded, providing kayaking, canoeing and water safety training. The section became one of the group's most distinctive features.
Joined Scouting Ireland
Following the merger of Boy Scouts of Ireland and Catholic Boy Scouts of Ireland, 1st Meath Dunboyne became part of the new unified Scouting Ireland organisation.
Ventures Section Added
A Venture Scout Unit was established for older young people in 4th, 5th and 6th year of secondary school, completing the full range of sections and allowing young people to continue their scouting journey into late adolescence.
200 Members Milestone
The group surpassed 200 active youth members for the first time, reflecting the rapid growth of Dunboyne as a community and the group's strong reputation in the area.
50th Anniversary
1st Meath Dunboyne celebrated its 50th anniversary with a special family day at the Den, reuniting past and present members spanning five decades of scouting in the community.

A unique tradition since 1992
Established in 1992, our Water Section is one of the defining features of 1st Meath Dunboyne. In a region with few groups offering structured water activities, we've built a reputation for quality kayaking, canoeing, and water safety training.
Training takes place at the Royal Canal, Kilcock, and at Lough Owel, Westmeath, under the supervision of Canoeing Ireland-qualified instructors. Members can work towards formal paddling certifications at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels.
The Water Section is open to all sections and adult leaders, and all equipment is provided by the group.

Rooted in Dunboyne
Christmas Tree Collection
Every January, our Scouts and Cubs collect Christmas trees across Dunboyne and Clonee, raising funds and providing a community service.
Community Clean-Ups
We organise regular litter picks and environmental clean-up events as part of our commitment to caring for the places we love.
Scout County Events
We compete in and host Meath Scout County events including camp craft competitions, orienteering, and community challenge events.
